Welcome to a new In The Spotlight, featuring the incredible Vox!
Vox are an extraordinary pop, rock, funk and Motown band with a repertoire certain to fill the dance floor. Crowd-winning medleys and huge anthems are this function band’s forte. With hundreds of performances under their belt, they’re no stranger to the stage, picking up glowing reviews wherever they go. Featuring stunning male and female vocals and polished musicianship, they are a dazzling addition to any event.
So without further ado, here are Vox answering a few questions about the life of an in-demand function band!
Who are Vox?
Vox are the ultimate party band, perfect for any event. Boasting both male and female lead vocals, this 5-7 piece band is one of the most in-demand in Surrey, Hampshire and London. Vox offer stunning live arrangements and some of the most versatile setlists you’ll find anywhere.
Which song is your favourite to perform?
Well, for us it’s not just one song; we love to perform our specially tailored disco medley. Which features non-stop disco hits from across the decades for 40 minutes straight! Whether it’s Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ or the classic ‘Blame it On The Boogie’, we love to see the guests’ faces trying to guess what we’re about to segue into next.
Out of the songs you’ve been asked to learn for a first dance, which is your favourite?
For our singer Emma, it’s probably ‘Come What May’ from Moulin Rouge! Fun to learn and an epic tune!
Here’s a popular first dance song choice, also performed by Vox! A Thousand Years by Christina Perri!
One final song question, which is the song you can always rely on to fill the dance floor?
We have a few in our arsenal, we will read the room to decide which one will work best. But we have to say, no matter the crowd, ‘24K Magic’ by Bruno Mars always has the dance floor rammed!
Do you get on with each other all of the time?
99.9% of the time, yes we do. We are like a family. Working together every week for 5-6 years means you get close and end up spending time with each other even outside of the band. Of course, there will always be the odd time you’ll get on each other’s nerves, but we wouldn’t trade anyone for the world. How often can you say you are lucky enough to work with your best mates!
Who has the most annoying habit (and what is it)?
Well, Ben our bassist loves to wind up our singer Emma by wearing Christmas socks all year round, but as soon as December rolls in he will only wear normal socks. It annoys her so much! The rest of us just find it hilarious haha!
What’s the best thing about being in a band?
Most of us would say definitely getting free food and drink! Hehe! As well as being able to do our life’s passion as a full-time job.
… and what’s the worst?
The hours we work are very antisocial, weekends, evenings and all. So it’s very difficult to catch up with family and friends. It’s very important to have an understanding partner that knows you are going to be unavailable most weekends and social dates out of the year.
What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened to you at a wedding?
We’ve had many crazy things happen. It’s amazing how many streakers you get at weddings haha! But probably the strangest would be when a guest was hit by a car and no one really knew how it happened, as the area she was standing in was too small to get a car? An ambulance came and everything was put on hold for a while. Pretty sure she was ok, we think she just badly hurt her leg and side. Once the bride and groom knew she was alright the festivities continued!
And finally…the most important question: Buffet or Hog Roast?
We are a bit of a mixed bag on this one. Ross our keyboard player is a pescatarian so he would say buffet but the rest of us are hog roast all the way!
