The Suspicious Suspects In The Spotlight

The Suspicious Suspects In The Spotlight

Last Updated: 28th October 2021

The Suspicious Suspects are the perfect choice to add a unique twist to your event. This troupe of 5 talented, professional actors craft a range of mind-bending and pulse-raising murder mystery tales, bringing Sherlock Holmes and Poirot to life for your occasion.

With themes ranging from 1920s gangsters to Sherlock, Dickens to Bake Off, or even modern Shakespeare, this talented bunch provide bespoke entertainment for events that’ll get the whole room talking.

So, without further ado, let’s meet the cast …

Who are The Suspicious Suspects?

“The Suspicious Suspects are a rostrum of professionally trained actors; who hold the unique skill set required to create highly engaging interactive events. Coming from all different backgrounds, the suspicious suspects band together on the case to keep you guessing all night long!”

Give us a ‘wow’ factor about your act:

“90% of what our performers say is completely made up! As our guests are the detective’s team and essentially the last character, we go into the room every night and genuinely have no idea what is going to be asked. It’s the bit about our shows that guests absolutely love, as they control the night (although an Inspector will keep the evening on track). They have the option to have a highly intense case of serious questioning and cross-examination, or end up in tears of laughter over a fictional dog that’s run away (we never did find that dog…).”

What inspired you all to become performers?

“What inspired us to get into the industry is a variety of our heroes and idols, all of whom were there for one reason: to entertain. We love the thrill of providing people with an experience and tell a story to evoke emotions from the audience, whether they be positive or remorseful, even just to make them think. Oh, and we’re all terrible morning people, so we were inspired by a career which meant mainly working in the evenings after the coffee’s kicked in!”

Which theme is your favourite to perform?

“The Tables have Turned; it’s a bit self-indulgent as it’s set around a murder mystery company where the owner’s been killed off, but people absolutely love it. The company owner isn’t too keen, however enthusiastic the suspects are with it! It often descends into organised chaos, as it’s a chance to play incredibly over the top, stereotypical characters and break all of the game.”

Out of the bespoke stories and themes you’ve created, which is your favourite?

“I think it’s unanimous; everyone’s favourite is an event we created recently for a private client called ‘The Murderous Marriage’. It was a whole house event for our client’s 50th birthday, where she was also renewing her wedding vows. The vow renewal was adapted into the evening, where all of the 45 guests had their own individual, personalised characters within the world. They had side missions as the evening opened up to a whole Victorian house, searching for clue files and hunting down the suspects posing as venue staff. Throw in a bloodied body in a bathtub, speakeasy dancers, a jazz band and couple running around the house hunting for the one Slovakian guest to translate their clue and you have a night that’s truly memorable.”

What’s the best thing about being performers?

“The same thing that inspired us to become performers; being able to entertain and tell a story. What The Suspicious Suspects particularly enjoy with our murder mystery events is how engaging it is with the general public. The usual conventions of theatre are stripped back, to be able to create these stories amongst the guests and have them getting involved and interacting. That’s a great feeling that happens every show, there is a turning point where once people settle in and really start to get involved.”

… and the worst?

“Trying to sleep after a great show! After an evening of having your brain in overdrive to stay lively and quick witted, it takes a while to be able to switch off afterwards.”

What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened to you at an event?

“We were doing our Halloween thriller, ‘Dolly’, and one of the characters is a psychic. He was calling the ghost of the deceased as a joke with a table, and as he shouted to call them, the lights went out. Blown fuse or not, it certainly freaked us out for a while!”

Most memorable moment?

“Probably performing on a moving train. We didn’t realise until we arrived (we thought we were performing in the station), but it was certainly a memorable experience!”

If you weren’t performers, what would you all be doing?

“At this point, we’d most likely be lawyers, after all the years of catching fake criminals we’re pretty wise up on it!”
