Speedy Steve aka The Ultimate Wedding Caricaturist – In The Spotlight
As decreed by Twitter, today is Wedding Wednesday. To celebrate we’ve gone and started a new series of regular blog posts. Each edition of In The Spotlight will feature an in-depth look at one of Entertainment Nation’s exceptional artists. Today’s man In The Spotlight is the one and only Speedy Steve!
Speedy Steve is Entertainment Nation’s resident caricaturist, silhouette portraitist and all-round artistic genius. A graduate from St Martin’s School of Art, Steve has been drawing for as long as he can remember; he sold his first portraits at the tender age of 14 years old. Since graduating, Steve has spent years honing his skills and has drawn caricatures and portraits for many illustrious clients, including Jongleurs Comedy Clubs.
Speedy Steve more than lives up to his name with his ability to produce lightning-fast, uncannily accurate portraits in under five minutes! A caricaturist is a great choice for an afternoon drinks reception, generating a buzz among guests, causing moments of outright hilarity and creating souvenirs for guests to treasure and keep. An added bonus to booking a caricaturist is that there’s no better way of keeping kids occupied, especially when Steve is the caricaturist in question: he’s also brilliant at a balloon modelling!
Steve is a versatile artist who can create comical cartoon exaggerations of his subjects, Victorian-style silhouettes or glamorous portraits that capture a person’s inner and outer beauty. One of the most important skills possessed by a great caricaturist is often overlooked: they need to be a charismatic people-person. A caricaturist’s artistic brilliance means nothing if they kill the party mood and upset the guests, fortunately Steve has an engaging personality and genuinely enjoys getting to know the people he draws. This warmth of feeling shines through in his finished caricatures.
Steve is one of the best — how can we tell you ask? Let’s just say the queue to be drawn by Steve is often longer than the queue for the bar! When we asked Steve how his subjects respond to his work he replied, “To be honest I’d be hard-pressed to give you actual quotes, as I’m always immersed in the work – I can tell you I’ve had people exclaim that the work was ‘Amazing!’ which is always nice, and a good few ask ‘How the hell does he do that?’”
We’ll leave the final words on Steve to one of his satisfied subjects: “Me and my wife noticed our friends getting their portraits done and thought we should get ours done too. I don’t usually like getting my photo taken so I was nervous but Speedy Steve put me at ease straight away. He asked us questions about our likes and dislikes and had us laughing the whole time. When he showed us our drawings I couldn’t believe it, it looked just like me and captured my personality as well. The picture of me took a few pounds off as well so I know Steve is kind! My wife was really pleased with her picture too and we are going to frame them. A big thanks to Speedy Steve!”
