Phat Beats In The Spotlight

Last Updated: 29th October 2021

We’ve got a treat for you in this edition of In The Spotlight! We caught up with the latest band to grab the coveted featured band spot on the Entertainment Nation homepage: the insanely talented Phat Beats! Read on to discover more about this sensational London-based 4-9 piece pop and rock function band!

Who are The Phat Beats?

The Phat Beats are a team of professional musicians. All of their members are professional session musicians who work with some of the biggest names in the music industry today. Recently, they have been working with, Naughty Boy, Alesha Dixon, Sigma, Adele, Nicole Scherzinger, James Arthur and many more, performing on TV, Radio and at all the major festivals. Their musical director plays for Rita Ora, recently performing at Wembley. The band have even featured in the celebrity fashion magazine, Tatler.

We spoke to The Phat Beats’ singer Charlotte to get to know the folks behind the music:

Which song is your favourite to perform?

“Rock With You by Michael Jackson.”

A great pick and a little different – it’s not the first track by Michael Jackson that comes to mind (more like the 7th!).

Out of the songs you’ve been asked to learn for a first dance, which is your favourite?

“That would have to be The One by Kodaline.”

What a gorgeous song and so perfect for a first dance. We love the lyric “You make my heart feel like it’s summer, when the rain is pouring down” – so beautiful.

What is your go-to song that’s guaranteed to fill the dance floor.

“100% Mr Brightside – The Killers – We never fail to get every single person in the room jumping up and down on the dance floor to that track. Last week we had a 60-year-old mother-in-law jump off the bar, and into the crowd because people were going mental to that song. That was a first for us!”

The Killers’ classic tune is the song for any band to turn to when they absolutely, positively have to get every single person in the room on their feet!

Do you get on with each other all of the time?

Yes, we are actually all very good friends and hang out outside of work as well as when we gig. We all have very similar personalities and humour, so basically gigs for us are a chance to hang out with each other, whilst doing what we love. We are very lucky really as I have heard of a few horror stories within bands.

Who has the most annoying habit (and what is it)?

“This would 100% be our drummer. He would forget his head if it wasn’t screwed on! He leaves at least one drum at every venue we go to! So we have to double check he has everything, and even double check he’s in the splitter van on the way to gigs!”

What’s the best thing about being in a band?

Getting to do what we love and travel to lots of amazing different places.

…and what’s the worst?

“Having to go over and over and over the tracks as our Musical Director is an extreme perfectionist. There’s no getting away until it’s perfect! (Even if that means going over the song 100 times).”

What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened to you at a wedding?

“I would have to say that one of the weddings we did a few years ago, the bride and groom decided not to get married but still have the party. It was a little odd but the party still went ok and everyone seemed to have a very good time. We didn’t ask why they changed their minds about getting married. Thought that would be a little too much!”

And finally, the most important question: Buffet or Hog Roast?

“Hog roast!”

Hog roast storms into a 3-1 lead in the complimentary food league! Can buffet stage a dramatic comeback? Find out in the next exciting edition of In The Spotlight!

Thanks to the amazing Charlotte for answering our questions and describing possibly the most awkward situation any band could find themselves in! To be clear, we mean the wedding that never was, rather than the raving 60-year-old mother-in -law!

If you’re looking for a cool and contemporary live band who’ll have the dance floor buzzing, hire The Phat Beats!
