We wanted to learn more about what makes talent like this tick, so over to Perfect Pitch …
Who are Perfect Pitch?
“We’re a live acoustic duo from Essex, UK! We perform a wide range of tunes through the ages with our unique acoustic touch!”
Give us a ‘wow’ fact about your act!
“Well, aside from performing in our duo, Perfect Pitch, we’re also both professional musicians. Emma is an accomplished classical soloist, with her performances having been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and many more. George is a vastly experienced live guitar player who has written and recorded music for TV, film, and radio.”
What inspired you both to become musicians?
“We both have slightly different first experiences with music; Emma grew up in a musical family, where her first musical loves were jazz and classical, whereas George learnt to play electric and acoustic guitar by himself from a young age.”
Which song is your favourite to perform?
“Tough one! We have lots of favourites, but I suppose our favourite at the moment is ‘Shallow’, from the film ‘A Star is Born.'”
Out of the songs you’ve been asked to learn, which is your favourite?
“Our favourite ceremony song we’ve been asked to play recently is ‘Real Love’, by Tom Odell. We crafted a special acoustic rendition of it for our couple and they were thrilled!”
One final song question: which is the song you can always rely on to please the audience?
“Well, our domain is mostly gentle background music and special performances, and we find our jazz classics, such as Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, get the most attention.”
Relying on more than sheer talent, the guys from Perfect Pitch have a unique performance bond in their relationship as a couple. We wanted to find out how this helps fuel their incredible act.
Do you get on with each other all of the time?
“We met at music college, and have been a couple performing together ever since! We get on really well – bar the occasional disagreement over whether the E dominant 7 chord should have a flat 9 in it or not …”
Who has the most annoying habit?
“We’re both perfectionists, which can be tricky occasionally.”
What’s the best thing about being musicians?
“We love being able to have a job we love doing and getting to play our favourite songs!”
… and what’s the worst?
“The long hours on the road can be tough sometimes.”
What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened to you at a wedding or event?
“Well, there was the time that George had to jump in and become an emergency soundman for the ceremony at a gig we played abroad once. The venue didn’t know how to work their own microphone system!”
Most memorable moment?
“Another tough one! We reckon our favourite was playing ‘Love and Affection’ in a huge, beautiful church for a couple’s first dance. The atmosphere was incredible and it was so romantic!”
If you weren’t musicians, what would you be doing?
“That’s really difficult, because our whole lives have been dedicated to music. However, if we had to choose from our other interests, George would probably be playing football and Emma would be acting.”
Thanks to Emma and George from Perfect Pitch for taking the time to talk to us about their unforgettable act!
